I have an extensive dental history, including surgeries, 5 years of different sets of braces, and 16 teeth pulled from my mouth over the years, in addition to the fact that my uncle was my dentist for 7 years before he retired, so I consider myself well seasoned in terms of routine procedures and what to expect in a dentist office. And routine dentist exams are pretty standard. My very first appointment with Great Expressions was absolutely ridiculous. They tried to tell me I needed X-Rays, even though I had just had them 6 months prior and when I argued with them they told me it was standard for new patients (if I wasn't so busy with work and leaving the country for a year I would have walked right out that door). When it came time for my X-rays, the hygienist told me they could not take the X-rays unless I removed my small earrings. I told her that was impossible as I just got my second holes done and I was not permitted to take them out yet. We argued for 20 freaking minutes until the doc came in and said it was OK. After my cleaning, the hygienist started putting this goo in my mouth. When I asked her what it was, she told me it was fluoride (something I've never actually had done before) and I asked her if it was necessary. She told me it was and would help with my sensitivity. The entire time I was there, I felt like the hygienist was patronizing me, as well as the receptionist, Teneisha (who kept saying, "Thank You Ms. (My Last Name) very loud and theatric like a child. When I went to checkout, they tried to charge me $45 for the fluoride treatment that I was not ever asked if I even wanted! I told them had I known that was not a free service I would have pushed her away immediately, but was never given the chance to stop her before she started coating my teeth in it. I asked him to go get the hygienist and the doc so I could confront her and argue the charge. It took the receptionist 25 minutes to come back and tell me they would waive the charge. And yes, it is true that this is the ONLY dentist I have EVER been to that has NOT given away a free toothbrush, sample paste, and floss. They charge $5 for a small package - RIDICULOUS! In addition, you have to pay for parking (they only validate the first hour and it takes longer than that, at least my appt did). I highly recommend finding another dentist that will treat you with respect and not try to squeeze you for money every time you go there.
